Amish Needs and Mental Health Care

October 31, 2012

A survey I don’t remember seeing before. Always interesting to see these kind of results, of course, I always wonder about sampling error and “testing good” with any survey, but particularly with this population.

…interesting. i once had a conversation with a mennonite family about how they wished that oaklawn could just send a therapist and a staff or two to new york to live with their family and help them with their psychiatric problems for several months, rather than have their children (3 of them over the course of a year and a half) in treatment at oaklawn. talked about it with a therapist once and she thought that for that particular family and several others that we served on poplars it would have been great, but too costly financially. it’s something i keep in the back of my mind though, especially since poplars closed.

Yep. I got into working with the Amish community locally because I was doing intensive home based work at the time. I still see a couple people for counseling/case management/whatever you want to call it that way.
