It’s A Wonderful Life (

December 24, 2011

A nice summary of my favorite movie of all time. All good Christmas stories are dark. A Christmas Carol is a ghost story, the Charlie brown Christmas special is sad and a little despairing. Seriously, listen to Charlie Brown wail at the end, “Can’t somebody tell me what Christmas is all about?”. “A Christmas Story” has peril, children swearing, fights, a scary Santa…”it’s a wonderful life is the best and darkest of them all. Merry Christmas everybody, don’t jump.

Okay, a couple more. Miracle on 34 Street has a commitment hearing as the centerpiece. Frosty dies at the end. Rudolph
Is discriminated against and ostracized. Not to say they don’t have happy endings, but the best Christmas stories are all slogs through misery before you get to the end.

…and this actually gives me hope 🙂 so, i’m going through all this sludge in my life right now and someday it’ll all be resolved for the better (possibly when i die) there will be a happy ending (even if i have to wait for heaven for it)! i think we’re going to have to watch some of these christmas movies now.
